A vacancy will soon appear on the state boards website advertising the position of chairperson of Horse Racing Ireland.

Given that Joe Keeling’s five-year tenure does not conclude until March, that might seem sooner than expected. However, it might also have come about a year earlier.

This time 12 months ago, Keeling and HRI’s chief executive Brian Kavanagh were embroiled in a fiasco that was of neither man’s direct making but from which both emerged with their reputations bruised.
