Greatrex eyeing further success as winning machine La Bague toughs it out

La Bague Au Roi has long been the apple of trainer Warren Greatrex’s eye and she showed exactly why with a tenacious victory in the Listed mares’ hurdle.

Few can match winning rider Richard Johnson’s appetite for victory but the champion jockey met his match in Le Bague Au Roi, who battled back bravely under Johnson’s urgings to win having been briefly headed by favourite Jer’s Girl after the last.

“She’s awesome,” said Greatrex. “She was a bit lonely in front and just lugging left but she showed she definitely stays three miles and it’s nice she’s showing everyone what I think of her. She’s won nine from 12 now and is a winning machine.”
