Derby prize fund is boosted to £1.125 million despite coronavirus downturn

Top-level British racing received a welcome shot in the arm on Thursday when Jockey Club Racecourses announced the Derby will have a seven-figure prize fund again in 2021.
The race will be worth £1.125 million in June, more than doubling the £500,000 purse that was on offer at Epsom last year.
The £625,000 boost comes despite the continued financial impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, which cost JCR more than £90m in revenue in 2020 across the 15 courses it operates.
