Melbourne Cup a Tuesday treat while classy jumpers return to action at home

Monday

The week commences with decent jumping action at Plumpton and Hereford. The former stages an intriguing handicap hurdle (2.40) which features highly regarded types Air Horse One, Dan McGrue and Acey Milan.

Kempton stages Listed action with seven runners contesting the Matchbook Floodlit Stakes (4.00) including the classy Young Rascal and Royal Line, who finished third behind Kew Gardens and Stradivarius on Champions Day.

Tuesday

Set your alarms for just before 4am and make sure to watch the Lexus Melbourne Cup. There will be three British and seven Irish-trained representatives at Flemington. Meanwhile, Japanese runner Mer De Glace is seeking his own slice of history in Australia's biggest race. It promises to be a fascinating running.

In Britain, Exeter stages the Coral Haldon Gold Cup (2.10) where God's Own, Charbel, Janika and Lalor all feature in a classy six-runner line-up. There is also action at Southwell and Kempton, while Fairyhouse stages the sole meeting in Ireland.

Wednesday

Star novice hurdle prospect McFabulous has a number of entries across the week including two at Chepstow. The Paul Nicholls-trained five-year-old won a Grade 2 bumper at Aintree in April.

Meetings are also staged at Nottingham, Musselburgh and Dundalk before an action-packed evening which sees eight-race cards at Kempton and Wolverhampton.

Thursday

Newbury's 2m6½f beginners' chase (2.05) featured the top-class La Bague Au Roi and Lostintranslation last season and this year's edition could feature some potential big names in the novice chasing division.

Arguably the key horse among the 20 entries is the Nicky Henderson-trained Champ, who is an 8-1 favourite for the RSA Chase. The talented seven-year-old could kick off his chasing career here against the likes of Dashel Drasher, Birchdale, Beakstown and Vision Des Flos.

A Listed mares' chase (2.15) is the feature on Market Rasen's six-race card, while the day's racing is boosted by meetings at Sedgefield, Chelmsford, Southwell and Thurles.

Friday

Kalashnikov made his chase debut at last year's Warwick fixture and this season's running (1.50) could feature a classy field with Supreme runner-up Thomas Darby among the entries.

Meanwhile, Fontwell and Hexham stage jump meetings and Newcastle hosts all-weather action starting at 4.30.

Saturday

Wincanton hosts its biggest meeting of the season with a pair of Grade 2 races set to be staged at the Somerset venue.

The Unibet Elite Hurdle is often a springboard for future Champion Hurdle prospects, while the 'Rising Stars' Novices' Chase has lived up to its billing in recent years, with Frodon, Silviniaco Conti and Comply Or Die among the previous winners. Dual Grade 1 hero Reserve Tank could be among the runners for Saturday's race.

Elsewhere Doncaster stages the prestigious November Handicap and Aintree's quality seven-race card includes a Pertemps Hurdle qualifier.

Sunday

Coneygree, Might Bite and Elegant Escape all kicked off their seasons by winning the Virgin Bet Future Stars Intermediate Chase, so it will be worth keeping a close eye on this Sandown Listed event.

Elsewhere on the card, there is leg nine of the Veterans' Series and a bumper which has thrown up some useful performers. Ffos Las and Navan are also in action.
