McManus launches astonishing nine-strong attack on the Galway Hurdle
JP McManus will be represented by a remarkable nine of the 20 runners in the Guinness Galway Hurdle on Thursday as he bids to win Ireland's richest hurdle race for the third time.
Successful in the race with Thomas Edison in 2014 and Tigris River a year ago, McManus has his forces split between five trainers with Joseph O'Brien running five including last year's winner, the mount of Jody McGarvey.
O'Brien also runs Le Richebourg, who will be ridden by Barry Geraghty, Ivanovich Gorbatov, Monarch and Plinth.
Mark Walsh partners Blazer (Willie Mullins) while McManus's team is completed by Jer's Girl (Gavin Cromwell), Don't Touch It (Jessica Harrington) and Project Bluebook (John Quinn), who is one of three British-trained runners in the line-up.
Strong Mullins squad
Blazer is one of six runners for Mullins, who will also be represented by topweight Sharjah, Good Thyne Tara, Whiskey Sour, Voix Du Reve and Max Dynamite, the mount of Ruby Walsh.
The ground at Galway on Wednesday morning was described as good on the jumps course and yielding on the Flat track following a dry night. However, persistent rain from 9am on Wednesday morning could lead to a going change.
The weather is expected to improve on Wednesday with dry conditions expected on Thursday and later in the week.
