Martin wins and loses in Pyromaniac case

Never was the saying ‘you win some, you lose some’ more apt, with trainer Tony Martin experiencing both sides of the coin at the same Turf Club hearing yesterday.

Martin won his appeal against the €2,000 fined imposed on him over the running of Pyromaniac in a 1m6f amateur riders’ Flat race at Killarney ten days ago – but was fined €1,000 for a breach of another section of rule 212, under which the original penalty was imposed.

At Killarney, Martin was deemed to have used the racecourse as a training ground for Pyromaniac, who finished sixth and was banned from racing for 42 days. That suspension remains in place, ruling him out of the Guinness Galway Hurdle next week.
