Tom Marquand expects the battle with Josephine Gordon for the Stobart Apprentice Jockeys Championship to go right down to the wire.

The Cheltenham-born defending title-holder, who is based with Richard Hannon and partnered his first winner in December 2014, currently leads his friend and rival by 38 winners to 34, but anticipates plenty of twists and turns before the final outcome is known.

“I’ve ridden 11 winners so far this month and am thrilled with how things have gone since I lost my claim,” Marquand said.
