Mark Enright believes his horror fall from Swingbridge at Galway on Friday evening, which left him with a fractured vertebra, a lacerated liver and put him out of action for up to two months, "could have been worse".

The hugely popular rider almost stole the Galway Hurdle from the front on 33-1 outsider Due Reward, with Tudor City catching him in the final few strides, but Enright is now in a brace after his spill from Swingbridge at the second fence in the Galway Blazers Handicap Chase.

"I have a a T7 vertebral fracture and I am in a back brace at the moment," Enright said. "It was just a bit unfortunate as Swingbridge just rolled over me. I got a cut on my liver too, but I'm lucky and it could have been worse."

He added: "I got out of Galway hospital on Saturday evening, which was great and I'm going to see specialist Paddy Kenny on Tuesday morning for an MRI scan to see the extent of everything. I would imagine I will be out of action for around six or eight weeks."

Enright's finest hour arrived at Galway last year when he steered Clarcam to success in the Galway Plate.
