Mares' chase heralds journey to big-money Haydock final

The quest for a place in £50,000 finals at Haydock next Easter in the Challenger Series starts at Worcester today with a disappointing field of four in a new mares' three-mile chase category.

This sixth category in a series started last season aimed at jumpers rated up to 135 has been introduced as part of an ongoing attempt to keep mares racing, rather than retiring to stud.

The BHA was not disappointed with today's turnout, which includes two nine-year-olds mares, in the first of ten such races for mares over fences.
