A significant stumble was the talk of Epsom on Saturday evening, but it was probably not the one preoccupying the minds of many racing fans.

While aficionados and punters were dissecting whether Madhmoon’s Derby chances had been compromised by a trip while he negotiated Tattenham Corner, the wider world was focusing on the unfortunate fall of Ruth Langsford as she departed the course.

The TV presenter, who is married to broadcaster Eamonn Holmes, posted an image of her scratched and bruised knees on Instagram alongside a message, which read: “So...wonderful day at the Derby until I fell over on my way out! Ouch! Before you ask…I WASN’T drunk!! #fallingover #embarrassing.”
