Lockdown the horse could make his debut in June for Hugo Palmer

With a name like Lockdown he would be one of most apposite winners of the age when racing finally resumes.

The Covid-19 pandemic that has halted life as we know it is behind the name given to a two-year-old son of Charm Spirit out of the mare Bounty Box at Hugo Palmer's yard in Newmarket.

The juvenile, owned by Qatar Racing, is a half-brother to two-time winner Fuente and cost David Redvers 45,000gns at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Sales last year.

Palmer said: "Lockdown is very appropriately named for the times, and if we ever get out of lockdown itself hopefully he could be one of our first two-year-old runners.

"He's a strong type and has been doing everything right at home and he strikes me as a runner likely to be seen in June. He hadn't done a lot before he came in but is cantering away nicely."
