Racegoers face a long and winding road to get to upcoming Lingfield meetings because of a road closure that is estimated will add around 30 minutes to journey times.

The A22 just north of South Godstone will be shut in both directions from Monday, July 24 for up to eight weeks for drainage and road repairs.

This will impact on up to nine meetings at Lingfield where racing takes place twice more this month, three times in August and four in September.

The roadworks will block the direct acccess route to Lingfield from junction six of the M25; the Surrey County Council diversion details can be accessed by clicking here.

Lingfield recommends leaving the M25 at junction 7 for the M23 and heading south before leaving at junction 10 (Copthorne/East Grinstead). Follow the A264 towards East Grinstead and turn off on to the B2028 up to Lingfield.

There may be shorter alternatives for cars on country lanes available if turning off the A22 before the closure.
