What they say: 'The nice ground helps him and he has a lovely weight'

Saturday's ITV action comes from Cheltenham and Doncaster, with the likes of Chantry House and Champ on show.

But among seven televised contests as well as decent action in Ireland, there are plenty of strong views from trainers.

Read on to get the best of what the trainers have to offer before racing.

1.55 Cheltenham

Paddy Power Cheltenham Countdown Podcast Handicap Chase (Grade 3), 2m4½f

JACAMAR

Milton Harris, trainer: "Jacamar is an improving young horse. We had the option of the novice handicap, but I'd rather take on the more exposed runners in this race. The one downside, of course, is he lacks the experience of many of the others.

"He's in the form of his life and off a good mark – I'm sure 133 isn't the ceiling of his ability. I saw he was 12-1 on Thursday night – that was a big price."

2.30 Cheltenham

Paddy Power Cotswold Chase (Grade 2), 3m1½f

CHANTRY HOUSE

Nicky Henderson, trainer: "We've put cheekpieces on to try and help him. I suppose everyone will look at Kempton and ask what went wrong but it all just happened very quickly, it was essentially his first time out of novice company where he was able to dictate a race.

"They just went too quick, we know that, and it got lots of horses out of their comfort zone. He'll just have to be a little bit sharper, and he will with the cheekpieces on. They'll help him face up to it. He's in really good order, he'll love the ground.

"It's an important race, he's got to come through this. I still hope he's our Gold Cup horse, but I guess we'll have to find out."

2.45 Doncaster

Albert Bartlett River Don Novices' Hurdle (Grade 2), 3m½f

MAHLER MISSION

John McConnell, trainer: "I think he'll love the step up in trip. Last time over two and a half miles would have been a minimum for him. He came out of that very well and I don't think he had a hard race. It's an open contest, but he's fully entitled to take his chance and hopefully he'll run a big race."

3.05 Cheltenham

Welsh Marches Stallions At Chapel Stud Cleeve Hurdle (Grade 2), 3m

PAISLEY PARK

Emma Lavelle, trainer of Paisley Park: "He's in really good order, but frustratingly you'd love the ground to be softer. It is what it is and I'm really happy with him. He's a real battler and needs to keep going to races, so not having this last year wasn't helpful. It's great to have it back and hopefully he's going to run a big one."

3.20 Doncaster

Sky Bet Handicap Chase (Listed), 3m

HURRICANE HARVEY

Fergal O'Brien, trainer of Hurricane Harvey: "We were very disappointed at Cheltenham last time after he ran a blinder in the Badger Beers at Wincanton, but for whatever reason it just never happened for him. We've freshened him up and he's won a Grade 2 round there before. The nice ground helps him as well and he has a lovely weight. We're very hopeful.

3.40 Cheltenham

Ballymore Novices' Hurdle (Grade 2), 2m4½f

HARPER'S BROOK

Ben Pauling, trainer: "We've always liked him a lot. I thought he'd run better than he did at Sandown last time but hopefully it was one of those days where it just didn't work out. We're hoping for a big run."
