Unbeaten Earthlight ready to add to Godolphin juvenile riches in Middle Park

Impressive Prix Morny winner Earthlight is on course for a trip to Newmarket next Saturday and a potential clash with Mums Tipple in the Group 1 Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes, as Godolphin look to add to their two-year-old riches.

Earthlight lowered the colours of Raffle Prize at Deauville to make it four wins from as many starts and the form was further boosted at Doncaster last week when A’Ali – who finished back in fifth in the Morny – ran out an easy winner of the Flying Childers Stakes.

William Hill make Earthlight and Mums Tipple 5-2 joint favourites for the Middle Park, and Andre Fabre confirmed the September 28 contest to be the target for the son of Shamardal.

"He's done everything right since the Morny and he's due to run at Newmarket in the Middle Park," said Fabre, who has had precious few chances to add to his two wins in the Group 1 since Zieten scored in 1992, two years after Lycius.

The Darley Dewhurst Stakes was cited as a possible target for Earthlight after his Deauville success but the progress of runaway National Stakes winner Pinatubo has become a factor, and Fabre is also keen to strike while his charge remains in such good form.

"We were waiting on the Irish race for Pinatubo and it would be stupid to match them against one another at this stage in their careers," said Fabre. "He's fast enough to run six furlongs and proved it in Deauville, but Group 1s are always difficult so we'll see."

Fabre does not believe that sticking to six furlongs this season will compromise Earthlight’s Classic prospects next year, and added: "He could stay over six furlongs at two and still run a mile and a quarter at three."

Earthlight remains a general 12-1 for the 2,000 Guineas and will get valuable experience of the Rowley Mile at two, something all three of Fabre's combined Newmarket Classic winners had in common.

While Earthlight will be rounding his season off at Newmarket, the Fabre-trained Victor Ludorum is heading for the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere on Arc day.

Owned by Godolphin, Victor Ludorum gained valuable experience when recording a smooth victory at Chantilly last Saturday, just 13 days after his debut success at Longchamp.

"He's a very nice colt with good acceleration and he'll go for the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere," said Fabre.
