Three runners who catch the eye on the all-weather at Kempton
Eight races, starting at 5.45, are live on Racing UK from Kempton tonight. Here are three runners to keep an eye on . . .
Sabador
8.15 Kempton
Kempton's card is headlined by a £25,000 handicap, which the consistent Sabador must have claims in. Trained by Ed Walker, who is enjoying by far his best campaign, the gelding was a close fourth in the Victoria Cup before finishing third in another of Ascot's ultra-competitive straight-course handicaps. That was followed by a creditable fourth in the Cambridgeshire, but dropping back to a mile seems sure to suit. The son of Kendargent has a career-high mark to overcome, but his maiden win came over this course and distance.
Likely to be a price if you are in need of a watch to stop you running late, this gelding has won only once and that came on the all-weather at Lingfield last year. Formerly with Dean Ivory, he is now trained by Alex Hales, but has suffered two heavy defeats since moving yards. However, he has had wind surgery after the latest of those and Hales did have a 100-1 winner at Kempton this time last year. He is owned by breeder Andrew Cohen, whose colours are most closely associated with Grand National runner-up Suny Bay.
This week should have been all about Accidental Agent and the Qipco-sponsored Queen Elizabeth II Stakes for Eve Johnson Houghton and Charlie Bishop, but a setback has forced their Queen Anne hero out of Champions Day at Ascot on Saturday. They would welcome a winner, so keep an eye on Skydiving, who has had a wind operation since his last appearance. That effort might have been disappointing, but pieces of the three-year-old's form are respectable and one of his better performances came when a 33-1 second over this course and distance in June.
