Three runners to look out for at Chelmsford this evening
Chelmsford's eight-race card is your evening action on Saturday. Here are three runners to look out for . . .
Open Sea6.15
The chances are, with a bit more experience and a clearer run, Open Sea might have won on her debut at Pontefract just over a fortnight ago.
She has the experience now and, with trouble in running probably hard to come by in this five-runner novice, she should be capable of showing much more.
It is no selling plate, with previous winner Invincibella arguably the least of them as a long-term prospect, but with a sound Godolphin pedigree Open Sea's promise sits above any of her rivals.
Kodicat7.15
On two of her last three starts, including over this course and distance last time, Kodicat made most only to be reeled in late.
On neither of those occasions had she drawn stall 1 and that little advantage, which she enjoys this evening, could be the edge she needs to take advantage of her mark, which is the same one she ran off 18 days ago.
This race would be no stronger. Top weight Dreamboat Annie was behind Kodicat last time and other promise is more opaque, such as Lethal Angel dropping in trip or the unexposed Dollar Value.
Weellan7.45
Ripon can be something of a specialist's track, with its undulating straight, and that is where Weellan has done his winning this year.
Those misgivings aside, he looks a horse ready to pounce from his new mark, 1lb lower than his latest winning one. His Ripon successes have both come at 1m and the last twice he has run over sharp 7f tracks (Musselburgh and Catterick), shaping like a return to 1m will be to his benefit.
He gets that here, not at Ripon but he is proven on the all-weather (Tapeta) and the jump to suggest he will act around here is a small one.
