Kempton stages a twilight card that begins at 4.00, hot on the heels of the afternoon action. Here are three runners on the card to look out for

Local History
4.00 Kempton

Yarmouth, with its proximity to Newmarket, is well known by now as a track where the maidens and novices deserve the greatest attention. Local History made her debut there last month, finishing fifth to a more experienced Godolphin runner.

The way she shaped that day could quite easily be put down to her lack of experience. It is unlikely, given her pedigree, that she lacks for speed. Having learned from that, she looks a most interesting contender on her second run.

The Godolphin-owned Silver River provides a stiff challenge in this race, but form acolytes will be cheering on Quicksand, whose two starts so far amount to something much greater than the bare form figures.

Firstly, when she debuted in April she was third, at Newbury, to Lah Ti Dar. She next appeared nearly five months later, when she won a novice over course and distance. The interest there comes from runner-up Wohileh and fourth-placed Birch Grove who have both won since.

Quicksand has had another couple of months off since, but if she is as ready as last time she should give Silver River a real race.

It is two years since Apex King last won, but he has been shaping as though his turn is imminent in recent runs, finishing second and fifth here before running poorly on soft ground at Newmarket just over a fortnight ago.

Dropped a couple of pounds for that, he now goes down slightly in grade and, still not long with Richard Hughes, could be in for a productive winter with his course form assured.
