The life of Lester Piggott will be celebrated with a service at St Luke's Church in Chelsea at 3pm on Thursday, October 27.

The winner of an unmatched 30 British Classics, Piggott died at the age of 86 in May, after which his family held a private funeral near his home in Switzerland

His family announced at the time that Piggott – widely regarded as the greatest jockey produced in Britain in the 20th century in a career spanning 46 years – would be the subject of a more public commemoration in due course, and a huge turnout from major figures from around the racing world is anticipated.

His daughter Maureen Haggas said in June that the memorial event would be a chance to "celebrate his amazing life".

The event will be ticketed and those wishing to attend are urged to apply by email to LesterPiggott@addeddimension.co.uk, with the closing date for consideration being September 14. Applications should be accompanied by a postal address and a contact telephone number.

Those without access to email should write to Lester Piggott’s Service of Thanksgiving, Added Dimension Events, 19 Redburn Street, London SW3 4DA.

Tickets will be sent out at the beginning of October.
