Last year's St Leger hero Logician is set for a considerable drop in trip and class when he returns to Doncaster for his long-awaited seasonal return on Thursday.

The unbeaten son of Frankel is to tackle a mile and a quarter for the first time since last June in the Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Conditions Stakes, which has attracted 13 entries.

Logician, who has won all five of his races and was last seen comfortably defeating Sir Ron Priestley in the world's oldest Classic on Town Moor last September, was struck down with a life-threatening stomach condition known as peritonitis last winter. Now fully recovered, the four-year-old is entitled to come on for his first outing in almost a year.

Frankie Dettori partnered the John Gosden-trained grey for the first time since their St Leger triumph together on the Limekilns round gallop on Saturday morning and connections are hoping to start the four-year-old's delayed season on Thursday.

Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to owner Khalid Abdullah, said: "Logician worked nicely this morning and he is entered at Doncaster on Thursday. The plan has always been to go gently, gently with him to begin with so this race could be a nice starting point."

Doncaster Thursday entries

Prior to his Classic win, Logician won novice contests over 1m2f at Newbury and Newmarket before winning a handicap at Newbury when stepped up to 1m4f. Following that, he went on to land the Group 2 Great Voltigeur Stakes at York.

Logician was among the entries announced this week for British Champions Day, which takes place at Ascot on October 17. He is entered in the Qipco-sponsored British Champions Long Distance Cup and Champion Stakes, although connections have not committed to any big autumn targets.
