'She's full of promise' - Frankie Dettori to ride supplemented St Leger runner

Frankie Dettori has a rich history with fillies in the famous Juddmonte silks and he will have the chance to add another chapter to the book after being called up to ride Haskoy, who will be supplemented for Saturday's Cazoo St Leger.

The Ralph Beckett-trained three-year-old will bid to become the tenth filly to win the final British Classic of the season on the back of an eyecatching victory in the Galtres Stakes at York.

Ryan Moore was in the saddle when she got up in the nick of time on the Knavesmire but Dettori, who built up a memorable partnership with the Juddmonte-owned Classic winner Enable, will be aboard at Doncaster.

"Frankie Dettori is booked to ride her," said Juddmonte's racing manager Barry Mahon. "He's ridden enough Leger winners and he seems to excel on fillies in those colours.

"She's full of promise, it's a big step up but she's unbeaten in her two runs and Ralph [Beckett] and his team really like the filly. With Yesyes going to the Park Hill it made sense to split them up."

Haskoy will have the least experience in this year's St Leger field by a considerable margin but her unexposed profile is what swayed connections towards Doncaster's flagship race.

Mahon said: "It's very hard to win Listed races after one run on the all-weather and the second of ours, Time Lock, is a very good filly too. The two were well clear of the third in a strong renewal.

"Ralph and the team have been very happy with her at home and Ryan Moore was very complimentary about her at York.

"When we floated the idea past him, he was very pro the idea and thought she's a high-class filly who will be well up to competing in such a race."

Juddmonte last won the St Leger when the John Gosden-trained Logician landed the 2019 edition on his first try at the 1m6½f distance.

Haskoy will also be having her first try at the trip after two runs at a mile and a half and although Mahon does not see her future beyond the St Leger distance, he has every faith her stamina will hold firm.

"Personally, if you were to ask me now, she's more of a filly to go back down in trip," added Mahon. "A mile and six on breeding is probably the top end of her.

"Physically, she's an athletic filly and wouldn't remind you of a big stout staying filly. We're taking it for granted a little bit that she'll stay the trip, but hopefully she will and I think she's a filly who can mix it."
