Chester's three-day May meeting provided some excellent action, and here are three horses who could be worth following for the rest of the season.

Sarvan
Sixth, 1m2½f handicap, Thursday

A horse who breaks slowly at Chester rarely stands a chance, and it's a similar story at Epsom. Sarvan, trained by George Scott, has done just that on his last two runs and caught the eye on Thursday when sixth behind Baryshnikov in the 1m2½f handicap.

The unexposed grey missed the break and was immediately on the back foot, but he navigated his way through the field and stayed on well under hands and heels riding. His mark of 86 is clearly workable, so stay with him when he runs at a more galloping track.

Second, Cheshire Oaks, Wednesday

She could not quite get to the 110-rated Dubai Fountain in the Cheshire Oaks after getting stuck in a traffic jam for a few strides on the home turn, but she screamed she was a genuine Oaks contender. There is still some 12-1 available for that race and I would be very surprised if the Chester placings are not reversed at Epsom. This Tamayuz filly has achieved an awful lot in a short space of time given she only won her maiden at Chelmsford in late August and she could just be your 2021 Oaks winner.

Second, Dee Stakes, Thursday

Maximal’s overall profile suggests he isn’t entirely straightforward, and Sir Michael Stoute might not yet have found the key to him. However, there was plenty to like about the Galileo colt’s length second to El Drama in the Listed Dee Stakes, and I’ve a hunch he’s going to improve plenty during the summer and autumn once Stoute works his magic. One Ruler, who beat Maximal by a length and a half at Sandown last August, finished a fine sixth in the 2,000 Guineas last Saturday, and that Classic form is likely to work out supremely well.
