Gold standard: Robbie Power aiming high with Lostintranslation and Sizing John

Winter cannot come quickly enough for Robbie Power, who has the cream of the crop at both Colin Tizzard and Jessica Harrington's powerhouse stables to choose from and is understandably fizzing with excitement ahead of the jumps season accelerating into top gear.

The prospect of spending the winter flying back and forth between Britain and Ireland would not appeal to most, but Power cannot wait to start commuting.

The jockey said: "I'm a very lucky man. I have the best of both worlds. I don't mind going anywhere once I have good horses to ride. I have the best of both worlds with Colin Tizzard and Jessie Harrington.

"They both have top stables and really exciting horses. Jessie has some big owners and lots of unexposed young horses to go to war with this year, while Colin and Joe just continue to go from strength to strength. I am in a very privileged position and I can't wait for the season to start properly."

Power landed the 2017 Gold Cup on Sizing John for Harrington and believes the long-absent chaser retains plenty of ability, labelling him "a forgotten horse", but he also expects his British base to provide a Gold Cup contender in Lostintranslation.

Power has ridden the flamboyant son of Flemensfirth on ten of his last 12 starts, including when toppling RSA Chase winner Topofthegame in the Mildmay Novices' Chase at Aintree in April.

Power said: "I've always loved Lostintranslation and, as a novice he was very, very impressive. He has to make the step up from the Championship to the Premiership, but he has a huge frame and I think he can. If everything goes well this season, I would be surprised if you didn't see him lining up in the Gold Cup in March.

"He kept the best of company last season and never ran a bad race. We always knew when we stepped him up to three miles you would see huge improvement, but we didn't want to do that until after Cheltenham.

"You saw what he could do at Aintree. He was in his comfort zone everywhere and I was very impressed. In fact, I was shocked something picked me up after the last in the JLT to be honest. I'd say Defi Du Seuil must be a very good horse to do that."

Lostintranslation could meet Sizing John in the Gold Cup next March and Power is praying the 2017 winner's recovery continues to go well.

Power said: "Sizing John has been nearly two years off the course, so when a horse has been off for that long it is a case of taking it day by day, then week by week. If he stays in one piece, he is most certainly a forgotten horse. Sean Byrne, who rides him out every day, has been very, very happy with him so fingers crossed he continues to progress."

Power is also looking forward to riding Supasundae – who, like Sizing John, races in the colours of the late Ann and Alan Potts – and believes the nine-year-old does not get the recognition he deserves, despite winning three Grade 1s.

The rider said: "Supasundae never runs a bad race and he has won three Grade 1s now. He never got the credit he deserved and I guarantee you he will pick up another Grade 1 somewhere this season too. He will probably run in the Champion Hurdle, but I would say his ideal race is the Aintree Hurdle as he loves that intermediate trip."

One of the most exciting prospects for Power this season is Tizzard's Reserve Tank, who wrapped up his campaign by winning Grade 1 novice hurdles at Aintree and Punchestown.

"He's a remarkable horse and the improvement he has shown since I rode him at Chepstow last October is unbelievable," Power said. "He was treated for ulcers over Christmas and came back a different horse. I believe the plan is to go chasing and he would have done plenty of schooling in the past, so he's definitely one to really look forward to."

Power has ridden Chacun Pour Soi over fences and, unsurprisingly, thought the second favourite for the 2020 Champion Chase felt a bit special when winning a Grade 1 at Punchestown in May.

"Willie [Mullins] has his own riders, but if the ride ever became available again I wouldn't say no!" laughed Power.

"If they can get a clear run with him, God only knows where he might end up. He had an Arkle winner and a JLT winner behind him at Punchestown. He gave me a great feel; he was very impressive. And, I wouldn't say he is just a two-miler either. I'd say he will get further if they want him to."
