Revenge for racing fan's ex-wife as she too sponsors event to celebrate divorce
It seems David Chillery is not the only one to use a race meeting as a platform for celebrating being divorced, as one of his ex-wives has followed his lead and sponsored a race in honour of the event.
On Monday evening at Wolverhampton, the 7.50 carries the catchy title of Celebrating 22 Years Without David Chillery EBF Fillies' Novice Stakes.
For the last eight years David Chillery has sponsored a race at his local track Newton Abbot to mark his singledom, with the latest running in June named the David Chillery Continues Celebrating His Divorce Novices' Handicap Chase.
But now his former wife Madeline has hit back in kind with her own event, which is suitably restricted to fillies.
A bus driver and racing enthusiast, David Chillery 75, split up with his first wife Jean in 1978. His second marriage to Madeline ended in 1997.
Ten runners have been declared for Monday's race, and there would be a large degree of irony attached to a victory for the Archie Watson-trained Endless Joy.
