A racegoer will be given a lifetime ban from Beverley racecourse for inappropriate behaviour towards a female Racing TV presenter while she was broadcasting.

The incident happened on Raceday, a social media channel run by Racing TV, on Saturday when Amy Christophers, 35, was interviewing a group of racegoers.

The hand of a man wearing a grey suit was mimicking riding a horse when seen making contact towards the behind of Christophers, who at the time was presenting on course. He then says to the camera "put that online" while Christophers appears appalled by his behaviour.

In a series of tweets on Tuesday afternoon, Christophers called out the behaviour and posted: "I was shocked! I was working, that's not ok, if you think sexual contact without consent is ok then maybe you’re the problem too!"

Sally Iggulden, chief executive at Beverley, said the track has a zero-tolerance approach to "inappropriate disrespect" and is working to issue the ban to the racegoer.

She said: "We're appalled by the actions of one individual at Saturday's meeting. We reached out to Amy immediately after the incident to offer our sincere apologies and support.

"Beverley racecourse has always operated a zero-tolerance approach to any form of inappropriate disrespect and we're now in the process of studying CCTV footage of the incident.

"Anyone found to have committed any offences of this nature can expect a lifetime ban from Beverley racecourse."

Racecourse Association spokesperson Paul Swain said: "The RCA shares the widespread condemnation of the appalling behaviour towards Amy Christophers at Beverley racecourse. We have contacted both Amy and the Beverley team to offer our full support. Such behaviour has no place in society, let alone at a racecourse, and the RCA will play its part in ensuring the perpetrator receives the appropriate ban."

Christophers, a sports journalist who rose to fame when appearing on reality TV show Married At First Sight, started on Raceday's launch show in July last year. The service is aimed to showcase the on-course experience for racegoers and can be accessed via Instagram and Tik Tok.
