Punters think Venetia Williams pair can upset favourites in Graded events
There has been significant support for a horse in the Betfair Game Spirit Chase (3.00) at Newbury, but not for the favourite Greaneteen or top-rated Champ.
The Venetia Williams-trained Fanion D'Estruval has been consistently strong in the market. Available at 8-1 on Friday, he is now into 100-30 for the 2m½f Grade 2.
The six-year-old has only had five starts in Britain and wasn't far behind Politologue and Waiting Patiently in the Clarence House last time, with his only win on these shores coming over this course and distance.
The trainer's only other runner on the card has also been well backed. Cepage was as big as 14-1 yesterday but is now into 6-1 to spring a surprise in the Betfair Denman Chase (2.25).
An impressive winner at Chepstow when last seen, he has good handicap form, including when he won a Grade 3 at Cheltenham last January, and punters seem to think he can bridge the gap to this class.
Dashel Drasher has been declared a non-runner in the same race after winning yesterday's Ascot Chase, while similarly Mint Condition and Everglow have been scratched earlier on in the card.
The ground remains good to soft, soft in places with patchy rain forecast this morning.
There is also racing from Uttoxeter, where conditions are heavy, soft in places, and from Market Rasen, where the ground is soft, good to soft in places.
