Punters look back in anger as two of three Oasis-themed runners beaten
There was a sniff of morning glory for punters studying the form at Doncaster. Would they find a winner? Definitely maybe.
Oasis fans were transported back 20-odd years as they looked through the Doncaster card on Tuesday and were taken right to the heyday of Britpop and the Manchester scene.
It was the bookmakers who were looking back in anger after the first leg of the treble Wonderwall, owned by Rebel Racing who tend to name their horses after songs, convincingly won the 2m5f maiden hurdle.
But punters hopes of a big payout slid away after Champagnesuperover, owned by the McNeill Family together with Patrick and Scott Bryceland and trained by Olly Murphy, was beaten in the 2m4½f novice handicap chase.
Roll With It, carrying the same colours as Wonderwall, attempted to keep the dream alive in the bumper.
Paddy Power had got into the spirit by quoting specially enhanced "Definitely Neigh-Be" prices, which were promptly snapped up by backers of a certain age.
The odds of all three winning was a 150-1 shot while all three being placed in the first three had been a 15-2 chance.
