Punters' group now looking to courses for more information
New Horseracing Bettors Forum chairman Colin Hord has warned racecourses they are in his sights.
The organisation represents the interests of punters and is keen to see more data and information available to those betting on racing.
"We are seeing a bit of a shift of our attention at the moment," said Hord, who chaired his first HBF meeting at Pontefract this week.
"Traditionally, it's been the bookmakers, trying to go in strong and get better terms and conditions for punters. Now it's the racecourses in our sights, making sure they're providing information."
Misleading going reports are one bugbear and theHBF also hope that the proposed trial of weighing horses onraceday can finally go ahead.
Trial for weighing horses shelved due to lack of support from key figures
"We are now members of the going group, what was the going stick working party, that the BHA run and we're trying to make sure that the going information provided by racecourses is up to date and accurate," Hord said.
"We were very disappointed about the trial of weighing horses that got stopped but the latest from the BHA is that it's not a dead duck.
"They say it needs a bit more work in terms of developing a case for it but they see it as something they want to trial. We need to do a bit more campaigning with the racecourses to encourage them that this is the sort of thing that needs to be available to punters in this day and age.
"At our meeting we met Paul Johnson an on-course bookmaker and we're now trying to work closer with that community to see if there are issues that both punters and bookies see with racecourses – providing better information for people who go racing, making sure Rule 4 information is put on show on big screens, things like that."
