Pete The Feat bids for second victory in Veterans' Chase final
The Charlie Longsdon-trained Pete The Feat returns to his beloved Sandown on Saturday in a bid to repeat his 2017 victory in the Unibet Veterans' Handicap Chase, the finale of the Veterans' Series.
Pete The Feat, the oldest horse in the 17-runner line-up, was a two-length winner over Theatrical Star in the valuable contest two years ago before finishing second in the race last year.
The 15-year-old will be joined by stablemate Loose Chips, an 11-length winner of a series leg at the track in November, and Longsdon is confident of a bold show from the gallant veteran.
"Pete The Feat is a very sprightly 15-year-old and absolutely loves Sandown," the trainer said.
“He was beaten only six and a half lengths last time – and I think he should have won – which showed he’s still got it.
The opposition includes Grade 2 winner Houblon Des Obeaux, who is bidding to continue trainer Venetia Williams' red-hot form, and the David Pipe-trained Rathlin Rose, winner of the Royal Artillery Gold Cup at Sandown last February.
Buywise, who won this race last season, has yet to fire in three starts this season but a return to veterans' company could help to spark the talented but mercurial 12-year-old.
