Newmarket next for Alcohol Free with July Cup and Falmouth under consideration

High-class miler Alcohol Free could have another crack at sprinting after leaving owner Jeff Smith "delighted" with her performance when dropped back to six furlongs at Royal Ascot.

Next month's Darley July Cup is an option for the filly at Newmarket, where she finished a close third in the Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes last year.

The four-year-old, winner of the Coronation Stakes at Ascot last season, was beaten under three lengths into ninth place behind Naval Crown in the Platinum Jubilee Stakes, her first outing at six furlongs since she won the Cheveley Park Stakes as a juvenile.

"We were delighted with her at Ascot," said Smith. "She'd be better with a bit of cut, it was pretty fast going on her first time back over six.

"If we'd had a bit of rain some of those in front would have started to come back and played to her strengths. But you've got to be delighted; it was the best Group 1 sprint so far and we were beaten under three lengths."

Alcohol Free, who beat the colts in landing the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood last summer, will now try again to secure a fourth career Group 1 win.

"She's come out of the race brilliantly and it will be the July Cup or the Falmouth next," said Smith. "It will depend on the opposition and the ground.

"If it came up really soft we'd be tempted to go to the July Cup, but if it's rattling fast again she'd probably go for the Falmouth, which she jolly nearly won last year.

"I'm full of confidence that she's going to run a big race at Newmarket in something, hopefully."

Alcohol Free, who finished fourth to Baaeed in the Lockinge over a mile at Newbury last month, has entries in the Sussex Stakes and Lennox Stakes at Goodwood after Newmarket.
