Micky Quinn settling down after moving in with the neighbours

Micky Quinn is settling into new surroundings in Newmarket after making the short move along the Hamilton Road to rent a barn from his neighbour Rae Guest at Chestnut Tree Stables.

The former footballer was forced to move after Amy Murphy annexed his old yard at Southgate Barn as part of her recent purchase of the Southgate Stables site from Willie Carson.

Quinn, who had trained from Southgate for over a decade, is renting 16 boxes from Guest and has already sent out a couple of runners from his new base.

He said: "It was not viable to stay at Southgate with Amy moving in, but we were lucky to get somewhere else so quickly especially just along the road.

"The horses are settling in nicely and thanks to Rae for helping us out. Funnily enough, the most stressful thing was buying a new house as our original house had been on the yard at Southgate. In my days as a footballer I was used to moving every two or three years but the difference was the club used to pay your moving expenses!"

Quinn's best horse is the nine-time winner Great Hall, who landed a hat-trick last summer including a victory at the Shergar Cup.

He said: "Thankfully our new house is just around the corner in Edinburgh Road and as our daughter Mia is starting at the nearby Newmarket Academy in September, it couldn't have worked out any better."
