Royal Ascot hero Advertise to bid for more Group 1 glory in Maurice de Gheest

Martyn Meade has pinpointed the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville on Sunday week as the next target for his Commonwealth Cup winner Advertise.

The two-time Group 1 winner, who landed the Phoenix Stakes last season, most recently finished a fine second to runaway July Cup winner Ten Sovereigns at Newmarket.

Meade said: "We're looking at the Prix Maurice de Gheest for Advertise next Sunday. The six and a half furlongs at Deauville will really suit him."

Looking ahead to autumn assignments, Advertise could chart a familiar path to Meade's former Group 1 scorer Aclaim, who scooped the Prix de la Foret at Chantilly in 2017.

"The Prix de la Foret is definitely a race we might look at down the line. We'll see how he fares over six and a half furlongs, but I certainly think he can get seven furlongs," Meade added.

Meade's ranks are further strengthened by the arrival of King's Stand eighth Houtzen, who joins his Manton team from Australian trainer Toby Edmonds.

A King George Qatar Stakes clash with Battaash at Glorious Goodwood has been earmarked as the initial aim for the four-year-old filly, who Meade reports has settled in well to her new surroundings.

He said: "It's always a bit of a worry when you have these horses who have travelled around but she's settled in extremely well. I'm actually surprised how well.

"She'll go for the King George at Goodwood now. She came to me after Ascot so I don't have a massive amount to go with, but she certainly seems to be in a good place."

In stark contrast to Meade's upbeat bulletin regarding Houtzen, the trainer is perplexed by the once highly-touted King Ademar, who has suffered novice defeats at odds of 1-3 and 4-11 on his last two starts.

King Ademar's second to 2,000 Guineas runner-up King Of Change at Nottingham in April on his seasonal bow pointed towards a fruitful campaign, but the Phoenix Thoroughbred-owned colt has failed to meet expectations.

"I think that might be a bit of an understatement," said Meade, when asked if he felt King Ademar had been a bit disappointing.

"Just to mention the very name [King Ademar] almost puts me into a quiver. I just don't think he's putting his best foot forward.

"He's shown bags and bags of ability, but it's fair to say he's regressed every run. It's up to the owners what they want to do with him now."
