Leger hero Logician set for rescheduled Cumberland Lodge at York on Friday

Last year's St Leger hero Logician is set to run in a restaged Cumberland Lodge Stakes at York on Friday.

The Group 3 is one of four races that have been saved from Ascot's waterlogged card on Saturday, with the Group 3 Bengough Stakes (York, Saturday), Listed October Stakes (Goodwood, Sunday) and Listed Rous Stakes (Nottingham next Wednesday) also restaged.

Logician made an impressive return from almost exactly a year off in a match race at Doncaster last month and worked nicely on the Al Bahathri Polytrack in Newmarket on Tuesday morning.

Trainer John Gosden said: "It's nice that they've put the Cumberland Lodge back on at York as it looks an ideal race for him and he'll run unless the ground is what I would call Knavesmire heavy. Logician breezed nicely this morning and we very much hope he can take his chance."

The grey son of Frankel is undefeated in six starts, five coming in a sparkling three-year-old season culminating in an easy victory in the St Leger.

Logician will be returning to a course and distance over which he won the Group 2 Great Voltigeur for what is likely to be his second and final outing of an injury-plagued season as connections are keen to have a fresh horse for the top middle-distance contests across Europe in 2021.

Logician will require a new jockey for his York outing, with Frankie Dettori – only sixth aboard Enable in their bid for an Arc hat-trick on Sunday – unable to ride.

The jockey will not be in action until Saturday and explained: "I didn't want to take a Covid test before the Arc but did afterwards which has come back negative. I'm now isolating for seven days which expires on Saturday for elite sportsmen.

"The other way I could have done it was take a test before the Arc, as Jamie Spencer did, and then be free to ride from Wednesday. Thanks to Ryan Moore and Jerry Hill for sorting it all out."

Gosden is planning to run both Indigo Girl and Monsoon Moon in the Group 1 bet365 Fillies' Mile at Newmarket on Friday.

Indigo Girl, who is disputing favouritism with the Donnacha O'Brien-trained Shale, could be ridden by Robert Havlin, with Frankie Dettori still in quarantine after riding Enable in the Arc at Longchamp on Sunday.

Gosden added: "The plan is to run both Indigo Girl and Monsoon Moon in the Fillies' Mile but we'll see how they are in the morning before declaring. I don't think Frankie is around until Saturday so we'll sort out jockeys as we go."
