A one-off portrait of Cue Card, by renowned equestrian artist Tania Still, will go up for auction

A portrait of Cue Card will be sold in aid of Racing Welfare on the opening day of Cheltenham's November meeting on Friday.

The painting, by equestrian artist Tania Still, has been created in oil on linen and is one of 12 lots that will be presented as part of the Countryside Alliance’s Countryside Day auction.

Cue Card, whose career highlights included winning the King George in 2015 and the Ryanair Chase at the 2013 Cheltenham Festival, retired from the sport last season after winning more than £1.4 million in prize-money.

Tania Still said: "I am very happy and excited to be supporting Racing Welfare again and I really hope that the painting will raise lots of money for both charities when it goes up for sale at auction.

"Meeting Cue Card was a real treat and I would like to say thank you to Colin Tizzard and Jean Bishop for their support with the project from start to finish."

Racing Welfare’s head of fundraising, Mark Loades, said: "We are very honoured to be the charity set to benefit alongside the Countryside Alliance from funds raised by Countryside Day at Cheltenham.

"We would like to express special thanks to Tania Still for donating her beautiful depiction of the hugely popular Cue Card for auction, and to all of those who have so generously donated lots this year. The raceday is one of the highlights of the jump racing calendar each year and we are absolutely delighted to be part of it."
