Kempton thrilled with possible return of Enable in September Stakes

Kempton clerk of the course Barney Clifford says it would be "an enormous boost" if Enable were to make her comeback in the course's September Stakes.

It emerged on Friday, via owner Khalid Abdullah's racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe, that the John Gosden-trained filly could prepare for the defence of her Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe crown in the Group 3 on September 8 if she is not ready to return at York's Ebor meeting this month.

Clifford said: "It would be fantastic if she were to run here. I should think she’d have an enormous following. September Stakes day has been rebranded this year as 80s day, which is fantastic, and everything will help to bring a crowd to the track.

"It would be a fantastic option for Enable as it's been a stepping stone to some pretty renowned races worldwide. Jack Hobbs won the race a few years ago and Dubai Gold Cup winner Prince Bishop won the race twice.

"It's a Group 3, but based on some of the horses who have historically won it, you'd say it's a higher-rated contest than that."

Grimthorpe had talked about wanting good, even ground for the four-year-old Nathaniel filly, wherever her first run back may be, and Clifford stressed Kempton provides exactly that, especially after a recent £340,000 refurbishment of the racing surface this summer.

He added: "We’ve had horses gallop on there this week and everyone's feedback was very positive."

Enable remains a top-priced 5-1 favourite for the Arc at Longchamp on October 7.
