Too Darn Hot and Qipco 2,000 Guineas winner Magna Grecia are set for a huge clash in the Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas on Saturday after both colts were among 14 declarations for the Curragh Classic.

Too Darn Hot, whose sire Dubawi won the Irish 2,000 Guineas in 2005, was the long-time ante-post favourite for the Investec Derby, but has been rerouted to the Curragh after stamina limitations were exposed when he finished runner-up in the Dante Stakes on his belated reappearance at York this month.

Connections decided that dropping to a mile would see Too Darn Hot in the best light, but he faces no easy task up against the Aidan O'Brien-trained Magna Grecia, who won at Newmarket by two and a half lengths.

Magna Grecia, who has won three of his four starts, including twice at Group 1 level, will bid to become just the second horse to complete the Guineas double in the last ten years.

Explaining why Too Darn Hot is set to be turned out just nine days after the Dante, trainer John Gosden said on Tuesday: "He's a horse with a great constitution and he came out of the Dante a very fresh colt. I couldn't be more pleased with the way he came out of the race."

Gosden will also unleash an exciting three-year-old at Haydock on Saturday as Calyx takes the next step on the path to the Commonwealth Cup in the Sandy Lane Stakes.

The feature race at Haydock is the Temple Stakes, in which Battaash, Kachy and Mabs Cross will do battle.
