Hollie Doyle: It would be nice to get a clear run through having had injuries

Hollie Doyle has one wish for 2019 and it does not involve a target for number of winners.

That is little wonder with the jockey suffering several injuries over the last three years, disrupting her progress and ending a challenge for the apprentice title in 2017.

Doyle said: "I haven't set myself any target for the number of winners. It would be nice to get a clear run through having had injuries the last three years."

First it was a broken collarbone at Goodwood which stopped her in her tracks when leading the apprentice title race. That was followed by a concussion after a fall at Redcar and, last year, a fall at Haydock requiring dental work and ten days out of action.

Doyle, who has this year made her best start to a season with 21 winners on the all-weather, is upbeat about her prospects in the months ahead. The 22-year-old has been boosted by working for Royal Ascot-winning trainer Archie Watson, whom she rides out for four days a week, while continuing to pick up rides for her former boss Richard Hannon as well as Clive Cox.

The jockey added: "Last year was my first without a claim and I only had four less winners with my agent Guy Jewell, who used to work with Hayley Turner, doing a great job."

Doyle is the 13-2 favourite with William Hill in a special handicap market to beat 11 other top female riders in the championship season that starts on Qipco 2,000 Guineas day, May 4, and ends on Champions Day at Ascot on October 19.

Hills have created a handicap market with jockeys receiving starts between five and 40 winners. Doyle, Josie Gordon and Hayley Turner get a five-winner start from Currie, who was last year’s top female rider in the same time window with 45 winners, ten more than Doyle.

Hills odds (start received in brackets): 13-2 Doyle (5), 7-1 McManoman (35), Begley, (35), Turner (5), 8-1 Currie (0), 8-1 Muir (35), 8-1 Bridgwater (25), 8-1 Dobie (40), 9-1 Gordon (5), 9-1 Richardson (20), 9-1 Elliott (25), 10-1 SophieRalston (35).
