Tidal Point
Second, Pontefract, Monday

Call My Bluff is a fast-improving stayer, so there was certainly no disgrace in ten-race maiden Tidal Point chasing him home over 2m2f at Pontefract last week.

It was also notable just how strongly Steph Hollinshead's representative travelled in that race, the four-year-old cruising to the front turning in before the winner's superior stamina came into play.

Unproven beyond 1m6f, he got the trip well enough, pulling nearly five lengths clear of the third, but shaped as though 2m on similarly soft ground would be an optimum for him. [Marcus Buckland]

Second, Ayr, Thursday

Kats Bob perhaps hasn't gone on from his encouraging debut as many would have hoped, but this luckless run over 6f on heavy ground at Ayr last week, when he was repeatedly denied a run before finishing with purpose for second, suggests a win is just around the corner.

His action screams soft ground, but being a son of Bobby's Kitten, I wouldn't mind seeing him on the all-weather either, with Fibresand at Southwell or Tapeta at Newcastle making most appeal.

Out of an unraced half-sister to 2,000 Guineas winner Kameko, he should find a mark of 70 well within his capabilities. [Marcus Buckland]

Alternative Fact
Sixth, York, Friday

Alternative Fact's hold-up racing style means he's the type that needs things to drop right, but he's well worth keeping an eye on for the final weeks of the turf season judged on last Friday's York run.

Although only sixth to Ouzo in a competitive mile handicap, Ed Dunlop's five-year-old made up a good deal of late ground to finish less than four lengths behind the winner.

His record on soft ground is well worth a mention as he has won three times and finished second once in only six starts in such conditions.

On this evidence he will be very well suited by the return to a mile and a quarter and he'll remain of interest in similar company when it looks as though there's a gallop to aim at. [Richard Young]
