Nomadic Empire
Third, York, Thursday
It is always worth keeping your eye on the markets in two-year-old contests, and a glimpse at the betting for this five-furlong novice would have shown strong support for David O'Meara's Nomadic Empire, who was backed into 13-2 (from 10-1) on his debut.
The Kodiac colt showed good early speed to track the winner, Muker, in the opening stages and loomed up large with two furlongs to go, proving he has plenty of ability.
He couldn't sustain his run in the final 100 yards but the form looks pretty strong and he should make amends next time.

Rock Boy Grey has proved frustrating so far in his career with just two wins from 19 starts, finishing in the places on a further seven occasions.
Mark Loughnane's five-year-old filled a minor place yet again here, but he hit the line powerfully over the six-furlong trip and is worth another chance on turf.
The gelding has had just five starts on grass and is clearly well suited by a bit of give. He is handicapped to win sooner rather than later.

Declaring Love ran a promising race on her debut last May, finishing third behind high-class individuals in Daahyeh and Raffle Prize, and she confirmed her ability here behind impressive stablemate Stunning Beauty.
She raced away from the favoured rail and didn't get as clear a run as the winner but ran on well once hitting top stride.
Charlie Appleby's fillies have tended to need their first outing of the season, which bodes well for next time, and she looks a certainty for a small maiden before being upped in grade.

El Hombre
Fifth, Newmarket, Thursday
The Keith Dalgleish-trained six-year-old travelled powerfully through the race before encountering traffic problems two furlongs out. He was continually denied a clear run and once a gap appeared it was too late. His rider crossed the line motionless, with the horse full of running.
El Hombre is back on a winning handicap mark on turf and, once he gets a strong pace to aim at, he ought to pop up at a decent price.
