Goodwood good to soft, good in places but with rain due on Thursday night

The track continued to dry out on the third day of Glorious Goodwood

Goodwood clerk of the course Ed Arkell has left the going description as good to soft, good in places after the third day of the track's meeting, with rain due overnight.

Arkell is delighted with how the ground has taken the first three days of racing after Glorious Goodwood started on heavy ground on Tuesday following a deluge of rain on Sunday and again on Monday night.

The track continued to dry out throughout Thursday but conditions are not set quite as fair for the fourth day.

Speaking after racing, Arkell said: “After today we’d probably be good, good to soft in places if we walked it and changed it now. I’ll probably leave it as it is and we’ve got some rain due this evening. The forecasts are saying 5-8mm of rain, with 3-5mm being the most likely the last time I spoke to them, and then some showers coming through on a fairly strong wind tomorrow.

“The track has coped brilliantly. You hate the fact it’s like it is when it starts, but come the end of the week you’re quite glad you’ve got some moisture in there and it saves you having to do anything.

“The rail on both bends will come down tonight so there will be fresh ground, a six-yard strip on the bottom bend and a three-yard strip on the top bend.”
