Jump racing will take place at Catterick on Tuesday afternoon after an 8am inspection at the North Yorkshire track was brought forward.

The track was covered in an inch of snow on Monday but the snowfall melted overnight and officials have no concerns over the meeting.

Conditions are described as heavy with the forecast predicting a mainly dry and breezy day with a chance of a scattered shower.

Catterick's clerk of the course Fiona Needham said on Tuesday morning: "All the snowfall had melted overnight and all looks good. We had a dry and breezy day yesterday and Catterick is a wonderful track as it drains so well – it even surprises me sometimes!

"The going is heavy but it's drying out a bit and runners will get through it fine as it's not that testing. It's not going to be a particularly warm afternoon at five degrees so racegoers should wrap up warm and enjoy some jump racing."

Brian Hughes has three rides on the card as he bids to extend his 19-winner lead over Richard Johnson, who returns to the saddle on Thursday, in the jockeys' championship.

The other meeting in Britain on Tuesday takes place on the all-weather at Lingfield.

Three jumps meetings are scheduled for Wednesday with fixtures at Market Rasen, Musselburgh and Wincanton.
