Gold Cup third Road To Riches among 38 Gigginstown horses bound for Goffs sale

Road To Riches, the dual Grade 1-winning chaser who ran third behind Coneygree in the 2015 Cheltenham Gold Cup, will be among 38 horses on offer at the annual Gigginstown House Stud dispersal at Goffs UK's Horses-in-Training Sale at Doncaster on September 19.

The 11-year-old won nine races, including six chases, for Noel Meade and achieved his Grade 1 victories in the JNWine.com Champion Chase at Down Royal and the Lexus Chase at Leopardstown in 2014, the same year he landed the Galway Plate by 11 lengths.

Meade said on Thursday: "Road To Riches is off to the sales and there has been plenty of interest shown in him by people thinking of a point-to-point/ hunter chase career for him.

"He was a great servant for us and we're hoping he'll find a nice new home."

The Grade 2 Clonmel Oil Chase was another notable victory for the son of Gamut, who also won a bumper and two hurdle races for Meade.

Thunder And Roses, the 2015 Irish Grand National hero, is another among the Gigginstown draft, with the ten-year-old joined by the year-younger Lord Scoundrel, who landed the Galway Plate in 2016, two years after Road To Riches, giving Gordon Elliott his first victory in the race.

The Elliott-trained Lieutenant Colonel, now nine, who won the Hatton's Grace and Christmas Hurdles when with Sandra Hughes in the 2014-15 season, also features, as does 2015 Albert Bartlett runner-up Milsean.

Goffs UK managing director Tony Williams said: "The Gigginstown House Stud annual dispersal is always a big attraction and will offer a number of horses who will be familiar to most following their exploits on the track.

"Every year the draft produces horses who go on to win big races, such as Folsom Blue, who was sold at last year’s sale and has since won over €100,000 for his new owners."
