George Boughey 'wouldn't swap' Cachet as he plots first Royal Ascot success

George Boughey retains every faith Cachet can win what looks like being an epic Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot despite his 1,000 Guineas winner's narrow defeat in France last weekend.

The trainer was talking to the Racing Post for a major interview in Sunday's newspaper in which he paints a vision of what the future might hold for his burgeoning training operation. But the present is also looking exciting with Cachet ready to go again at next month's royal meeting.

"She looks amazing," said Boughey. "She lost only nine kilos in the trip over to France and back having run in a Group 1 only two weeks before. She wouldn't run anymore than I thought she could and she's got a fantastic mind which allows her to race as frequently as she does. She's a very sound filly and a sound-minded filly."

Cachet is now set for a rematch with Mangoustine, who denied her by a head at Longchamp, and a potential clash with last year's champion juvenile filly Inspiral, who is also reported to be heading for the Coronation Stakes after a troubled start to the season. Despite that all-star line-up, Cachet's trainer is respectful but not fearful of the potential opposition.

"She was tenacious in France," he said. "The double had not been done this decade and she was very close. In hindsight we might have made a bit more use of her but she stays the mile well and Ascot is the plan.

"Inspiral is the massive danger if she turns up on her A-game but I wouldn't swap Cachet. I think we'll ride her with a bit more confidence that she stays very well this time."

Cachet is then likely to enjoy a midseason break before races like the Sun Chariot are considered. Beyond that, one last hurrah against the boys in the Breeders' Cup Mile could await.
