From Brexit to Chavs: four of the worst names racehorses have been saddled with

One of the great joys of ownership must be naming your horse. While some names are exceptionally clever or recognise totemic figures in history, others fail to hit the target. Here are four that are particularly memorable for all the wrong reasons

Wots The Wifi Code
A phrase that has inexorably become part of the lexicon, not even racecourses are safe from the question which is asked by scores of people on a daily basis. Trained by Tony Coyle, juvenile Wots The Wifi Code is still searching for a first victory after five starts, and finished last of 11 on his most recent outing at Thirsk this month.

No matter what side of the debate you are on, almost everyone can agree politics should be left out of racing – especially when a horse is named after one of the most divisive issues in recent times. The four-year-old filly lost a match race to the aptly named Trouble And Strife last year at Lingfield, which arguably served as an indicator for what was to come. She was last seen winning a claimer at the Surrey course in March.

As if hearing it on television and radio were not bad enough, the phrase 'download the app' has found its way on to the racecourse courtesy of the David Bridgwater-trained six-year-old. He may not have a particularly inspiring name, but he has certainly been placed to good effect, completing a hat-trick at Fontwell this month.

King Of Chav's
A chav is described as an anti-social person characterised by loutish behaviour, and owner-trainer Alan Bailey decided to declare his runner as king of them. Unfortunately he failed to find any sort of form on the racecourse, with seventh in a seller at Wolverhampton the best he could manage in 11 starts.
