Four horses who should relish the soft ground at Goodwood on Wednesday

The going on day two of Glorious Goodwood is soft, good to soft in places on the round course. The straight course remains soft all over. We've picked out four horses who ought to appreciate the conditions on Wednesday.

Goodwood day two: ground drying up after no more rain overnight

Siskany
Unibet "15 To Go" Handicap, 1.50

He may not be on the level of illustrious stablemates Adayar and Hurricane Lane, but Siskany is another smart middle-distance three-year-old for Godolphin and he should have no problem with the underfoot conditions in Wednesday's opening race.

He was a convincing winner on soft ground at Sandown in May and was not helped by a messy finish when finishing fourth in the King George V Stakes on quicker ground. James Doyle takes over in the saddle from William Buick, who rode him at Sandown.

Whispering Angel Oak Tree Stakes, 2.25

A victory over course and distance on heavy ground last October highlights Onassis's proclivity for testing ground and she has been well backed for the Oak Tree since Monday's overnight rain saw conditions deteriorate further.

The four-year-old filly was a Royal Ascot winner last year on soft ground and then finished a creditable sixth at the same course and ground in the Group 1 Champions Sprint.

Onassis's trainer Charlie Fellowes stated she will "love" conditions and it's unlikely she'll find a better opportunity to make the breakthrough in Group company.

Markel Molecomb Stakes, 3.00

Rain-softened ground brought out the best in the Ed Bethell-trained Fearby in the Listed Coral Dragon Stakes at Sandown this month and he is a warm order to back up that success here.

He was five lengths ahead of the reopposing duo Mojomaker and Kaboo on that occasion and is one of the few horses in the race to have proven form on soft.

Chief market rival Chipotle was impressive on quick going at Royal Ascot but was well beaten in the National Stakes when faced with soft ground.

Qatar Sussex Stakes, 3.35

Poetic Flare should prove hard to beat in Goodwood's feature race of the week and Jim Bolger claims to have little concern over the ground, but the weather has turned perfectly for outsider Century Dream to at least threaten the places.

Trained by Simon and Ed Crisford, Century Dream recorded his biggest career success over this course and distance on soft ground in the Group 2 Celebration Mile in August.

Six of his ten victories have come with good to soft or worse in the going description and he has been in consistent form this season.
