Saturday's bet365 Hackwood Stakes may be a Group 3 but the 6f sprint has been a rich source of future Group 1 winners, including Lake Coniston, who won at Newbury in 1994 before landing the July Cup the following year. Here are five more who went on to Group 1 glory.

The Tin Man (2016)

The seven-year-old is entered again this year after winning this three years ago, which he followed with second to Quiet Reflections in the Haydock Sprint Cup next time. He then triumphed in the Group 1 British Champions Sprint at Ascot where he returned the following June to win the Diamond Jubilee. The James Fanshawe-trained sprinter went on to land the Sprint Cup at Haydock last September, finishing ahead of Brando.

Regal Parade(2010)

He was not a typical Hackwood winner as he had been around the block at the age of six and had already tasted Group 1 success for Dandy Nicholls in the previous year's Haydock Sprint Cup but he added another top-flight success the following month when winning the the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville.

Pastoral Pursuits (2004)

Arrived at Newbury as a three-year-old with Kempton's Group 3 Sirenia Stakes already on his CV. This Hughie Morrison-trained sprinter went on to win the Group 2 Park Stakes at Doncaster on his next run but saved his best for the following year when winning the Group 1 July Cup.

Somnus (2003)

The previous year's Redcar Two-Year-Old Trophy winner won a conditions race before taking this while it was still a Listed contest. He proceeded to beat the champion sprinter Oasis Dream in the Haydock Sprint Cup before adding a second Group 1 the following year in the Prix Maurice de Gheest.

Invincible Spirit(2001)

After a curtailed three-year-old campaign, the John Dunlop-trained sprinter won this then Listed race and followed up in a Group 3 at the Curragh. However, he left his best for last when taking the Haydock Sprint Cup the following year. As a stallion, he has added to his Group 1 history, not least with Kingman but also July Cup winners Fleeting Spirit and Mayson.
