Fehily aiming for speedy hospital discharge after emergency appendix surgery
Jump jockey Noel Fehily is hoping to be discharged from hospital in the next day or two after having his appendix removed in an emergency operation on Saturday.
Fehily, who enjoyed three Grade 2 victories in November and December, felt stomach pains following two mounts at Huntingdon on Friday and forfeited his rides at Kempton the following day.
He was rushed to hospital in Swindon on Saturday and underwent keyhole surgery.
Fehily’s agent Chris Broad reported on Tuesday: "Noel experienced stomach pains on Friday and into Saturday and went into hospital in Swindon to be operated on.
"He had keyhole surgery, which is a plus, and he’s in there now and being treated with antibiotics. He’s hoping to be discharged either today or tomorrow.
"It came very much out of the blue and you can’t account for these things.
"I’ve never had a jockey experience this and Noel will be focused on making a full recovery – it’s impossible to say how long he’ll be out for until we have the full prognosis."
Jeremiah McGrath took a heavy fall at Fontwell on Monday but should be back in action shortly.
McGrath’s agent Dave Roberts said: "Jeremiah is a bit sore but should return in the next couple of days."
Roberts is also agent to Richard Johnson, who was unseated on the same card as McGrath. Roberts added the champion jockey would also be out for a couple of days.
