Big races

The Prince of Wales's Stakes (4.20) headlines day two of the Royal meeting as the only Group 1 race on the card.

Run over 1m2f, it is the most prestigious race of the year for middle- distance horses aged four and above.

The 1m6f Group 2 Queen's Vase (3.05) provides a potentially valuable insight into future staying stars, with three-time Gold Cup winner Stradivarius having been successful in 2017.

The Royal Hunt Cup (5.00) is as highly competitive as ever and presents one of the trickiest betting handicaps of the season with 30 runners set to charge down the straight mile.

Big horses

Love takes on the boys for the first time in the Prince of Wales's Stakes for Aidan O'Brien. The dual Classic-winning filly makes her eagerly anticipated reappearance for Ryan Moore on her first trip to Ascot.

Lady Bowthorpe, who took her form to new heights when second to Palace Pier in last month's Lockinge, will bid to go one place better in the Group 2 Duke of Cambridge Stakes for older fillies and mares.

Among the opposition is Group 1 winner Champers Elysees, wide-margin York scorer Queen Power and last year's Sandringham winner Onassis.

Ward aims for repeat in the opener

Wesley Ward's sole winner at the meeting last year came in the opening 5f sprint for juvenile fillies, the Queen Mary Stakes (2.30), with Campanelle for owners Stonestreet Stables.

The same connections hold a strong chance of a repeat this year, with favourite Twilight Gleaming aiming to give the 53-year-old American a 12th Royal Ascot winner.
