Evening action: three runners to keep an eye on under the lights at Chelmsford
With seven races on the all-weather at Chelmsford this evening there looks to be plenty of quality racing to look forward to. Here are three horses to keep an eye on...
Sea Shack
5.25 Chelmsford
A wide draw and a questionable attitude do not necessarily make Sea Shack the first port of call in this race, but he may be better than first impressions suggest.
Picked up by new connections for a mere £800 in September, the five-year-old has turned in improved efforts recently, with a switch to pressing tactics and the addition of cheekpieces making a difference.
While there are other front runners in this race, the wide draw means talented apprentice Scott McCullagh is likely to kick on and if he can get to the front the pair are not without a chance here.
Amade
6.25 Chelmsford
Chelmsford's reward for good prize-money is competitive racing, big fields and a number of fascinating contenders for the two fast-track qualifiers for all-weather finals day on April 19.
Clon Coulis is hot favourite to land the fillies' and mares' race (6.55), while Amade is a leading contender for the 2m conditions contest earlier on the card.
Trained by Giuseppe Botti, uncle of Newmarket trainer Marco Botti, Amade was the convincing winner of a 2m handicap at Kempton when he last visited Britain in January. This is much tougher though.
Colony Queen
8.25 Chelmsford
Few trainers have been hitting the board more frequently than trainer James Tate in the last fortnight, and he has another good chance in the final race this evening.
Newmarket-based Tate has saddled five winners, a second and a third from his last eight runners and Colony Queen is his only representative on Thursday.
Successful over just short of tonight's 1m2f trip at Wolverhampton last time, the three-year-old makes her handicap debut off a mark of 65 and hold every chance in an open contest.
