Champion jockey Davy Russell was sent to hospital with a leg injury following a fall at Roscommon on Tuesday evening.

Russell was partnering the Gordon Elliott-trained 9-2 joint-favourite Crack Of Thunder in the Michael Holland Tyres Handicap Chase when coming to grief at the fourth-last, appearing to be in some discomfort with a lower part of his leg when sitting up.

The Grand National-winning rider was stood down for the remainder of his rides on the card and medical officer Dr Richard Downey said: "Davy Russell has gone to Tullamore Hospital with a query tibia fracture."

Gordon Elliott called on the services of Denis O'Regan (twice), Barry Geraghty and Sean Flanagan for the remainder of Russell's rides, with other major stable jockey Jack Kennedy currently on the sidelines with a shoulder injury following a fall from De Plotting Shed in last week's Galway Plate.
