Confirmed runners and riders for the Phoenix Stakes as top juveniles clash
Three of the season’s most exciting juveniles will face off in the Group 1 Keeneland Phoenix Stakes, after Steel Bull, The Lir Jet and Ventura Tormenta were declared for Sunday’s race at the Curragh.
The Lir Jet and Ventura Tormenta have already clashed this season, with the latter coming out on top in the Group 2 Prix Robert Papin last month. Prior to that, The Lir Jet had landed the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Steel Bull, running for the first time for new owner Chantal Regalado-Gonzalez, steps up in grade having captured the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes at last week’s Qatar Goodwood festival.
While Aidan O’Brien has been the dominant force in the 6f contest, with 16 wins overall, he has not enjoyed success since Sioux Nation scored in 2017. Admiral Nelson, Giorgio Vasari and St Mark’s Basilica represent the trainer this time around.
Also lining up are Law Of Indices, a shock 66-1 winner of the Group 2 Railway Stakes last time, and Lucky Vega, who chased home the winner at the Curragh.
The field is completed by two fillies with Aloha Star, winner of the Group 2 Airlie Stud Stakes, and Bubbles On Ice both representing trainer Fozzy Stack.
